July 2010 - Good progress with forward recruitment

Under the forward recruitment process, everyone in the South West region currently working in an FRS control room was offered the opportunity to apply for posts at South West Fire Control. The forward recruitment process, which was agreed with the representative bodies and the FRSs, was implemented in January 2010 and is currently ongoing.

As a result of this work, all control room staff on permanent contracts in the region know what job they will have at SWFC. Those that were unable to transfer for any reasons have had this confirmed to them.

SWFC Chief Executive Julie Burnett said: "All the available positions at SWFC will be filled by experienced control room staff from the region. We are delighted with this outcome and look forward to working with these staff in the near future."

A couple of team members even took part in two races. Well done to all those who jogged, walked or ran around the courses in the heat and raised £465.

There is a section of the control room which can be partitioned off from the main control room, and is likely to be used for training or additional capacity in spate conditions, when a high volume of calls are received. This area has been fitted out with identical consoles to the main control room and also has two interactive whiteboards, which can display the information from the big screen if necessary.
